I am a self-published author. Which means I don’t make a lot of money (yet!). One investment I did make was to have someone do my copy editing. OMG. My full time job is so far from the writing genre and it’s been a long time since I studied English grammar. Who knew there were so many commas? Working on the edit of my next book. This time I missed about a bazillion hyphens. I write and edit and edit and edit. I leave the story for a while and edit and edit. I swear I look at things. Why do I miss punctuation? When you read your own material, you tend to see the same things and not the errors. So unless you’re a copy editor yourself, invest in one.
